22 Weeks!

I am 22 weeks today and had my routine OB check-up. My belly measured 28 weeks (Yikes!) and the PA-C assured me that this is normal for twins. Abel and Belle's heartbeats were heard on the doppler, so thankfully, everything appeared to be well. I have been having heartburn a lot lately, which I didn't have at the beginning of this pregnancy...I wonder why I'm having it now?

We have registered at Babies 'R Us and Target...almost everything x2! I have decided not to try and breastfeed. I know that many of you will wonder why I wouldn't attempt this because breast milk is best for babies. I know that. However, I also know that breastfeeding two babies will most likely be difficult and a stressed mommy will not serve them well in other areas. Both Aaron's mom and my mom fed us formula and we turned out fine. I also don't want to invest money in all of the breastfeeding necessities, only to find out that I'm not able to breastfeed (not producing enough milk, babies not latching on, etc) and have wasted that money when it could have been spent on bottles and other formula necessities. I struggled with this decision more from a financial standpoint than I did from a "breast milk is better for babies" standpoint. Breastfeeding is free and formula is expensive. However, after thinking about it and discussing it with Aaron and my mom, Aaron and I feel at peace with this decision.

I am reading your blogs even if I'm not commenting every time - and I'm excited to see what is happening in each of your families! :)

I'm so glad that all is going well! Sorry about the heartburn, though. It kind of goes with the territory. I've hardly had any this time, but I sure did with my first little one.
As far as not nursing...go where the peace is!

I think any time you have multiples, the nursing question becomes a more difficult one. I'm glad you were able to make the decision that's right for you!

You're having heartburn now because your stomach is being compressed by your growing uterus!!! :) There's not enough room for all the acid and all the food you put in it. I'm in the same boat. Every time I eat ANYTHING I get heartburn. Today i drank a half glass of kool Aid and had a piece of turkey at work and had to take Tums almost immediately!!!!

Oh, and I only nursed Derek for 7 weeks. It didn't go very well. He is fine. I plan to breastfeed Owen, but I also won't beat myself up too much if it doesn't end up working out for us.

Jenn, eat papaya enzymes for the heart burn they taste better than Tums, and are natural :)

So, glad that you had a good appointment! I've know many woman who had to use formula. I was a formula fed baby too!! Sometimes, in the Christian culture we can get silly notations in our heads that there is only one right way to do things. Every family is different and has different needs and abilities. If God wants you to use formula he will provide the money for it!
It was so good to see you!

I hear ya with the heartburn! Hopefully means they will have lots of hair! ha ha.
We didn't breastfeed Brae, and there was absolutely no problem with bonding or nutrition. I'm going to give it a try with Sienna, but I'm borrowing a pump, and still have lots of bottles left over from Brae. We'll give it a try and see if it works or not. I'm more inclined to do it because of the weight loss benefits! ha ha.

I can only imagine how stressful and time consuming breastfeeding 2 babies would be! You have to do what you feel is best for you, don't let anyone make you feel bad about your decision. By the way, where's your belly shot?? ;)

My heartburn didn't kick in until middle of pregnancy, either.

I hate the mommy wars--don't feel like you have to justify anything here. Only you and Dustin get a vote. The rest of us can support you, or jump off a cliff. You're doing well, Mama!
