PIO Mistake

After actually reading the labels on my syringes and needles today (why today? I don't know...), I discovered that we've been using the wrong needles to draw up the PIO and inject the PIO! - For BOTH TRANSFER CYCLES!!!

We have been drawing up with the 22 gauge and injecting with the 18 gauge. When I called Ascend Pharmacy to ask if they had put the instruction labels on backwards (not likely, but...) the pharmacist said "Ouch! Isn't that painful!?" Me: "Well, yeah, but I thought it was supposed to be that way..." I didn't know any differently! I called the NEDC nurse to tell her what I had been doing and to be sure that it wasn't a problem as far as the medicine going into the muscle. She asked Dr. K and he confirmed that it would still inject and be absorbed properly, but would be more painful for me.

So, I'm looking forward to my PIO shot tonight - this should be a breeze compared to what I've been experiencing twice a day! :)

You poor thing!!!! Oh my! And can I recommend the EMLA creme? I hardly feel a thing! I kid you not. Of course, I'm using a 25 gauge, so I can't even imagine what you've been going through!

Ouch! I am glad you saw that and can now switch out the needles. Are you finding a heating pad, massage, or somethings else helps? I will be doing these soon and just wondered. I hope tonight goes smoothly!

Britney & Shannon- I used the EMLA cream last cycle, but haven't this cycle...just because it's not too convenient applying an hour beforehand. I also used a heating pad last cycle...not too much this time around. I guess I've just been a tough girl. And surprisingly, I've not had any bruises. But, I'm definitely looking forward to using the 22 gauge from here on (and Lord willing, that will be for like 3 more months)! :)

I can't even imagine how much more uncomfortable that must be! It'll be a breeze from here on out.

Holy cow! Man, the 18 gauge needle is the one that scares me! Everything will still be sore with the 22 gauge, but I am sure way better. The only thing I do that may help with others questions is warm the vial with your body heat a few minutes to make it easier to draw up and inject.

OH, poor dear!

This is probably the only time in the history of PIO shots that someone is looking forward to it(except for maybe the LAST one)!

Ouchy! Ouchy! Ouchy!! Everytime I see those 18 gauge needles I am so grateful that someone invented smaller gauge needles for our day and time. You are one tough cookie, girl!

Oh my goodness. I can't believe it. I told my husband about your post tonight. His eyes were as big as saucers and he said 'does she have gaping holes in her hips?' I can't imagine that. I don't look forward to my shots again. It's pretty painful for me. I used ice last time. But my fibromyalgia makes it sooooo sore!

HOLY COW!!! There is no way I could inject with an 18 ga! I was a weenie with the 22 ga and went to a 25 ga! Yikes!

I kept forgetting to comment after I read your blog, but oh my goodness, girlfriend!!! I don't know how in the world you managed. You are one tough cookie!! : ) Glad you got that straightened out. I have been sharing your story with some other friends who have been through IVF and my husband. We were all hurting with you!
