6-Week Ultrasound

Well, the ultrasound showed TWINS! And, I have to admit that in my heart of hearts, before I even knew I was pregnant, I had a hunch that there were two in there. They both measured great. Baby A measured 6w1d and Baby B measured 5w5d (the tech said any variance within a week is normal) - they both had fetal poles and yolk sacs. The downside is that neither of their heartbeats were detected. The tech at my local fertility clinic said this isn't a worry, because I am only 6w0d today and they don't even have their own patients come for their 1st ultrasound until around 7 weeks (I'm not sure why the NEDC orders them at 6 weeks, because most fertility clinics wait until 7 weeks). I also immediately called the NEDC nurse and told her about not detecting their heartbeats and she said the same thing as my local tech - that they are mostly looking for fetal poles and sacs right now, but that she would like to see heartbeats on an ultrasound next week. So, I have to go for another scan next Tuesday. Please pray that the Lord would grant them beating hearts by then! My flesh is worried about my babies, but my spirit is at peace and trusting that God will continue growing them.

I do have pictures, but I will have to upload those later because we now have to head off to my brother-in-law's college graduation!

Yeah!!! I just knew there had to be more than 1 in there with betas like what you were getting - that's just so amazing!!

At 5 weeks 5 days, we only saw the yolk sac and gestational sac. A week later at 6 weeks 5 days, we saw a heartbeat. So it's definitely a bit early to worry about that!! I can't wait for your next appointment!

YAY!!!!!! If you recall from my 6 week 0 day ultrasound, our dr also said she couldn't believe we were having an ultrasound and looking for a heartbeat (also saying they don't schedule their patients til 7 weeks). She insisted that we would not see one. She said they MAY be able to see one because I'm so thin (carry my weight in my booty, not my stomach!). They were able to detect a heartbeat but it was only 90 bpm. I also called Dr K and he said that with assisted reproduction, it often takes a while for things to catch up. (Are they still unthawing? hee hee).
I am praying believing God with you that you will see and hear those blessed heartbeats soon!!!!

Wonderful News! Like Heather, (above poster) at 5 wk 5 days, I only saw a yolk sac/gestational, not even fetal pole yet. Do not worry about not seeing or hearing the heartbeats yet. You will on the next ultrasound. Congrats on TWINS!

Congratulations. I am soooo excited for you. I wouldn't worry too much about no h/b at this point. I've have several 6 weeks u/s and we never saw a h/b until 7 weeks....as long as sac is measuring well and fetal pole and yolk sac are there..that is what they expect to see at this point. I think your babies are growing and will be here in 8 months to keep you up all night and day. Praise God and the way He orchestrates getting these babies out of the freezer. We just had our donated embryo baby 3 weeks ago and she was sooo meant to be our child....it is uncanny how God pairs the right parents with the right babies....I'm just so thrilled for both of you and for those lucky, lucky babies for getting you as their parents!

Babies can't grow without being alive, so the fact that they're on track everywhere else is a good sign! Praying for peace while you wait though! CONGRATULATIONS! TWINS!!!
