Mock Transfer/Consultation Update

God was once again gracious to us, and everything went extremely well today at our mock transfer/consultation. Everything looked wonderful with my lining and Lord willing, will look wonderful for the actual transfer which will be in JULY!!! Yep, we will be going back to adopt our babies sometime in July - the actual date will be given to us sometime at the end of May, along with the profiles of the embryos that will be waiting for adoption then.

The nurse went over all the meds that I will begin taking around June - LOTS more meds for the actual transfer than the mock transfer! Aaron was given a brief tutorial on how to give my PIO (progesterone in oil) shots, which will require an extra measure of God's grace to him because he is terrified of needles! But, he agreed, as do I...anything for our babies. :)

The NEDC staff was wonderful and we are excited that we decided to go through them for our embryo adoption. The only negative aspect of the whole appointment was my full bladder! I was only told to drink 48-62 oz and wound up drinking 67 oz and once Dr. K saw my ultrasound, he agreed that I had a REALLY full bladder and told me that I won't need to drink as much for the actual transfer...which believe me, I won't...it was quite painful.

Ha, that is SO funny! I drank like 2 or 2 1/2 of those tall smart waters - wasn't counting ounces but it was A LOT! I got in for my mock and he was like are you uncomfortable? I said "I have to go but not super uncomfortable." Dr. Keenan was like "well, I want you to be really uncomfortable!" Oh man. SO...we sat in his office talking and I drank up even more! Well, then I REALLY had to go. Then for the actual transfer I told Clint I wasn't going to have him tell me I didn't drink enough so I drank a ton and I had to go pee BEFORE the transfer because I had to go SO bad! Ha! What can you do? So I just went "a little" if that was even possible...but it worked out fine! Wow, funny memories. Keep us all posted on how things are going! Best to you!

Oh and one more thing about the actual transfer...well TWO more things that NO ONE TELLS YOU...

1. They sterilize you...from the INSIDE-OUT! Yes, it's true. No one talks about this and I wish someone would have told me. Don't be scared, you'll do great and be fine...BUT it is alcohol...and it hurts like fire! It burns for like a minute (which to me felt like 5 minutes, but who is counting?) and then its okay. You know you have to do what you have to do and you just have to be tough about it but man, that part does really suck I have to admit. Like I said though, now you know and you can mentally prepare youself. Have a song in your head that is calming and just work on slow relaxed breathing. Thats what I did and it was fine.
2. You'll have to go pee SO bad after the transfer but you're on the elevated bed and can't move or leave so you WILL NEED a bedpan. Sorry, it's not glamouous...but its the truth and a reality. It was my first time and unless you can just "hold it" for like an hour or more go for it but you don't want to be tensed up - you want to be as relaxed as possible. Its a delicate time for the embies as they just went through a lot (freeze, thaw, shooting them through the cath and now being in this different environment). So, just take it easy and watch movies or take a nap for the rest of the day. We did go out to eat after both transfers though and that was nice.

If you have any questions please ask. I will also say sorry if I scared you but these are things you wouldn't think to ask anyone and I personally wish someone would have warned me about. Other than that the transfer is great and you guys will just be so happy you're there and that they day has finally arrived :)

Hey Jennifer,

Here's what helped me with the PIO shots, which I got off another blog, somewhere: I would lay on a heating pad for 5-10 minutes before Steve would give me the shot, after the shot, Steve would massage the area(after applying pressure to keep it from bleeding) and then I would lay on the heating pad for another 5 minutes. This really seemed to help me from not getting the big lumps(another thing they probably didn't tell you about).

Hope Rachel & I aren't scaring you-lol...Dr. Cline did my procedure in Indianapolis and I don't recall the sterilizing with alcohol at all(maybe it is something new they do).

I'm so excited for you I can hardly stand it!

Jennifer! So glad your trip went well. I am so nervous about the water part- maybe even more nervous than the PIO shot part. I will be praying for a good match with a donor family! Things are really moving now!
